Practically speaking, I wouldn't change the defaults. This means that if you're using any DLLs (such as plugins) that you don't also have a 64-bit version of, you won't be able to use those plugins (or whatevers). That is, a 32-bit process can't load 64-bit DLLs, and vice versa.
